2023 in Review

In 2023, we urgently shifted our focus towards initiatives that would preserve Ukrainian culture and highlight the symptomatic struggle of Ukrainian creatives in a time of war.

As the year kicked off, our Art Without Borders project, in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts, London, raised over £240,000 for the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine. With the support of some of today’s greatest artists, including Pavlo Makov, Antony Gormley OBE RA, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, Juergen Teller and Tracey Emin CBA RA, we were able to achieve a donation package that will support the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine’s creative community and its efforts to safeguard Ukrainian culture for future generations.

The funds raised will ensure the effective functioning of the institution as a guardian of Ukrainian culture through urgent structural repair work; publishing and exhibition activities to supplement citizens’ lost livelihoods; grants to care for elderly Ukrainian Academicians; art and mind therapy for children and adults, and the digitisation of archives.

We were thrilled to continue our partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts, London to support their “Artist in Conversation” series. This year’s programming included exciting talks with photographer Catherine Opie, sculptor Hew Locke RA and performance artist Marina Abramovic Hon RA.

In Madrid, at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, we proudly supported the publication of the catalogue for the travelling exhibition “In the Eye of the Storm: Modernism in Ukraine, 1900-1930s”; coming to the Royal Academy of Arts, London in June 2024.

The year ended on a high note as we invited our supporters in London to hear from Ann Dumas, a curator for “In the Eye of the Storm”. Ann introduced the exhibition and presented some of the participating artists in the award-winning exhibition.

At our annual drinks evening we toasted our friends and supporters who made all of our work in 2023 possible. For all who could not be with us, thank you. We look forward to sharing our 2024 projects very soon!
